Balos: The Most Picturesque Place Around Crete
Balos Bay in Crete is one of the main attractions of the island. Tourists call it one of the most beautiful places. Here, the waters of the three seas that wash Crete are mixed, and the bay shimmers with all shades of blue, light blue, and azure.
However, despite the popularity of Balos Bay among tourists, getting to it is not so easy. It is located between two capes (Gramvousa and Tigani) in the southwest of the island, far from most of the resorts of Crete. Thus, an alternative way to get to Balos Bay by sea has become popular. The famous pink sands bordering Balos Bay are also worth mentioning. The unusual color of the sand in the surf zone is created by tiny fragments of coral washed up on the shore.

However, at the bottom of the bay, there are also depressions covered with underwater meadows of Posidonia Oceania. Gramvousa: Fortress Island
In common usage, Gramvousa Island is a common name for two small and currently uninhabited islands off the northwest coast of Crete, which administratively belong to the city of Kissamos. Due to their geographical position, both islands were very important for trade, political, and military purposes. So, a fortress was built on the island during the Venetian rule to protect against the Ottoman Empire. It was built in the shape of a triangle with two sides of 300 meters and one of 200 meters. Nowadays, it’s the main attraction of Crete.
