Three or four times a week between April and September, the same email lands in my inbox. A couple in Faliraki, a family in Lindos, a hen-do group from Manchester — slightly different version, identical question: “Day or sunset cruise, which one should we book?” Here is the framework I actually use when I write back.

The 30-second answer

If you have one big sea day and you want to swim into a cave, snorkel at Anthony Quinn Bay, and sit down to a real lunch on the water, book the Day круиз (from €140). If you want golden-hour light, a glass of Prosecco, and a calmer 3.5-hour evening, book the закатный круиз (from €80). Most families with kids pick the day. Most couples and anniversary travellers pick the sunset.

The Two Cruises, Side by Side

The table is the easy part. The hard part is which one is right for your specific trip — which is what the next sections are about.

1. Best for Sightseeing, Snorkelling & Full-Day Energy — Book the Day круиз

Это 6.5-hour Day круиз is the right answer when one day on the water is the centrepiece of your Rhodes week.

You have kids aged 5–15. Three swim stops keeps everyone’s attention, lunch on board solves the August mid-afternoon meltdown, and Anthony Quinn Bay snorkelling is the kind of memory a 9-year-old still talks about a year later.
You want to swim into Afandou Cave. The sunset cruise doesn’t reach it — we run out of light. If “swim into a sea cave” is on your Rhodes shortlist, the day cruise is the only option.
You’re a snorkeller or freediver. Anthony Quinn Bay drops to 7–8 metres in genuinely 12+ metre visibility on a calm day.
You’re visiting in May, June, September, or October. Manageable midday sun, quieter bays, the best of both worlds.

2. Best for Couples, Anniversaries & Golden-Hour Photos — Book the закатный круиз

Это 3.5-hour закатный круиз is the right answer when the format of the evening matters more than the route distance.

You’re celebrating an anniversary, a honeymoon, or planning a proposal. The light from 19:30 onwards in July and August is the light wedding photographers fly to Greece to chase.
You’re a couple on a short 3–4 day Rhodes trip. A full day on the water risks burning your remaining holiday energy. 3.5 hours feels meaningful without writing off the next day.
You burn in the midday sun. The strong sun is mostly behind you by 19:00 and the cabin/shade handles the rest.
You want the best single photograph from your Rhodes trip. Mid-day light is flat. Golden hour at sea is a different planet.
You’re a small group looking for a refined end to the day — friends in their 30s–50s, a sophisticated hen-do, a corporate wind-down.

19:45 — the kind of light you can’t get on a day cruise.

3. Do NOT Pick This One If…

I get fewer emails on this side of the question, but the reverse framing matters.

Don’t pick the day cruise if you’re anxious about being on the water for 6.5 hours straight. The catamaran is stable and the east coast is sheltered, so the actual seasickness risk is low — but the lower-anxiety choice is the 3.5-hour sunset.
Don’t pick the sunset cruise if you have toddlers under 3 who go to sleep at 19:30. The timing fights bedtime. Pick the day cruise — the sleep schedule will thank you.
Don’t pick either if you’re staying in Lindos and won’t leave Lindos. The drive to Rhodes New Marina is an hour each way. Lindos-based гостей should honestly look at smaller operators further south rather than make the drive.

4. What An Hour Actually Feels Like On Each круиз

Day круиз · 12:00 noon

You’re anchored 80 metres off Anthony Quinn Bay. The water below the boat is the colour of a coin-collector’s coin — you can see your fins ten metres down. Half the boat is in the water with masks on. The other half is on the bow with snacks. The crew has the SUP boards out at the stern. The bay is quiet because we got here before the Mandraki boats. Lunch is being prepped below — you smell grilled fish on the breeze. Nobody is hurrying anyone.

закатный круиз · 19:45

You’re anchored near Ladiko, the sun maybe twenty minutes from the horizon. Half the boat has Prosecco glasses, half is in the water for one last swim. The sea is glass — the meltemi dropped off two hours ago. The light on the rocks is the colour of brushed copper. Somebody on the bow has their phone out, somebody on the stern is on their third canapé. In thirty minutes we’ll be sailing back into the marina under canvas with the blue hour reflecting off the water.

These are real moments from real cruises this season. Both are good. They’re just not the same.

5. Captain’s Final Word

If you’re still torn, here is my one-sentence test: “Would I rather remember a swim or a photo?” If swim, book the day. If photo, book the sunset. That decision rule has worked for hundreds of гостей over the last two seasons.

If neither feels right, email me at daneriyachts@gmail.com with one paragraph about your trip and I’ll tell you what I’d book if I were you. No upsell — I’d rather you book the cruise that actually fits than the more expensive one that doesn’t.

Ready to Book?

If you want the strongest all-round recommendation for first-time Rhodes гостей with at least one full beach-and-water day on the agenda, book the Day круиз. If your trip only has room for one beautiful evening on the water, the закатный is built for it. Both depart from Rhodes New Marina, both run May through October, both seat a maximum of 20 гостей.
